Are we just a country of billion plus bodies ?

September 30, 2011

India is like an ocean and the saying “water water every where but not a drop to drink” applies to our country also.

We have billion plus people but struggle to find a good Prime Minister. By the way, this struggle is on for many years. Forget, Prime Minister, we can’t find a good opposition leader.

The average age of our politicians is 60+ and we expect them to give direction to the “young generation” when they can’t keep their eyes open in the afternoon sessions of the parliament

We have an oxford and cambridge returned planning member who thinks an income of three fourth of a dollar per day is above poverty line. If his professors are still around, they might even consider withdrawing the degree certificate they gave him.

We have ministers who hold sensitive portfolios but fight like school kids. Our foreign affairs minister has taken his job (discussions with Pakisthan) seriously only after he found out that his counterpart is a “beauty”.

A 72 year old “Anna” only can bring us together to fight against corruption but once he goes back to his village, we don’t know what to do. We still can’t find solutions which will allow us to resolve legal litigations in less than 15 years.

Sachin at the age of 38 is still indispensable and Zaheer showed the country what his absence means. We haven’t found replacement for Dada, Dravid and Kumble till date and we still play football as a hobby rather than serious sport. Olympic medals are still a big dream

So, what are we ? A country of great potential or a country of just billion plus bodies.
